North Coast Hair is a curl specialist salon in North Cornwall, close to the beautiful town of Padstow. The salon is owned by Rachel and her husband, they stock the Only Curls range which they use on all their curly clients.
She has undertaken specialist curl training and has decided to make it her mission to help her curly clients embrace their curls and waves.
There have been many twists and turns through the rocky road of this pandemic. One unexpected positive for us has been the amount of people using lockdown as an opportunity to embrace their natural curls. With glossy salon blow dries out of the question, and with so many no longer needing to be dressed in office attire, it’s been a great opportunity for people to work on getting their natural curls back.
We reached out to some of our curly customers to ask them about their lockdown curly journey.
What’s co-washing, and why you should do it? All your co-wash questions answered...
Co-washing is short for 'conditioner washing', which means ditching the shampoo and washing your hair with a conditioning based product only. You may have people refer to this as the 'Curly Girl Method' or 'No Poo Method'.

"The first time I received a negative comment about my hair was at an interview for an office job. The director of the company asked me if I intended on keeping my hair curly if I was to be offered the job. He said my hair was a little ‘wild’ and might scare the clients. I told the director that I would most certainly be keeping my curls and that straightening it for the job would not be an option. I was so hurt that my hair was the director’s main concern rather than my capabilities as a potential employee."
